Disclosure About Obama's Aunt May Have Broken Federal Law

As though the biggest offense here isn't that the woman defied a court order to leave the country, and essentially stole from the government by receiving government benefits as an illegal alien.

Nope, nothing to see there. It's the leak, and the timing.

Nuance.

I LOL'd

- Chip
Barack Obama's aunt, a Kenyan woman who has been quietly living in public housing in Boston, is in the United States illegally after an immigration judge rejected her request for asylum four years ago, The Associated Press has learned.

October surprise! Hijinks! We're being Bamboozled!

I guess it's probably relevant to ask how long the AP sat on this story.

Now it's in the news...

- Chip
Politico:

Time’s John Cloud writes on THE CABINET — “a clandestine group of [seven] wealthy gay political donors.” The magazine calls $27 million a “[c]onservative estimate of the amount that Cabinet members spend each year on gay causes.” They are: David Bohnett, co-founder of GeoCities; Timothy Gill, another tech multimillionaire; James Hormel, the meat heir; Jon Stryker, billionaire grandson of the founder of medical-technology giant Stryker Corp.; Henry van Ameringen, son of a flavor-and-fragrance import magnate; Jonathan Lewis, grandson of the co-founder of Progressive Insurance; and Linda Ketner, heiress to the Food Lion fortune.

Not OUR news, of course. That'd be inflammatory, or something. Of course, this is too. But to Lowcountry voters, this is still just a rumor on a blog. Hate speech?

They Don't Even Care That We Know Anymore

- Chip
On Saturday Night Live this past weekend, there was a skit about the bailout. It was funny, and it pointed the finger of blame at Democrats for the policies that got us into this mess.

I was shocked to see it.

Funny thing, though. Earlier it was on the net, at Hulu.com and NBC.com.

Was. It's not there anymore.

You stay classy, Democrats. You stay classy...

UPDATE: You can see it here, now...

Fuzzy Math...

- Chip
There's plenty more red meat where this comes from...

Today, 70% of Americans shoulder the majority of the federal budgetary burden for all Americans. These Americans, by and large, do most of the risk-taking and innovating that produces the wealth, jobs and products that drive the American economy — not to mention pay the taxes that fund an ever expanding array of federal welfare programs and handouts.

Obama claims 95% of Americans would get a tax cut under his tax plan. Yet only 70% of Americans actually pay federal income taxes. How does this compute? Is he going to give more money to nontaxpayers?

The math simply does not add up. You can't give a tax cut to 95% of Americans if only 70% of them pay federal income taxes in the first place. Then again, math may not be Obama's strong suit, and judging by his earlier foray into "improving" education, it isn't a priority.

Healthcare and Me...

- Chip
I spent 2 1/2 hours at the ER two Saturdays ago, after doing an unintentional split-lunge on the stairs at out apartment. I NEVER saw a doctor, only a PA. And I barely saw him, perhaps 10 minutes total.

For that, insurance paid over $1700. Included in that is a plaster splint and 5 ACE bandages, plus some of that batting stuff they wrap the leg in before applying a cast. Also included was a nurse who could not accurately read blood pressure, and another who acted like a space cadet. Not included was $350 for X-rays, and $9 for ONE 7.5/500 Lortab(a pill that costs about 20 cents).

And we wonder why people can't afford health insurance. We fret about access to health care. Yet we allow healthcare facilities to charge these ridiculous amounts. It's absurd.

By the way, as a side note, a 25 minute office visit with a podiatrist and a moon boot cost $553, so the hospital isn't the only culprit here. Just the most egregious.

Regarding Gas Prices

- Chip
Something I found funny:

The "Count on 2" news team driving "up and down the roads" to, I guess, survey the local gas price situation. That's their description.

It takes time and money to search for the lowest prices, so News Two drove up and down the roads most of you travel to find the stations with the lowest prices.

As if driving up and down the road in the midst of a temporary shortage has no effect on the increase in gas prices.
